Nevada is the 36th State. It is most famous for its largest city, Las Vegas. There are very few cities and towns in Nevada, which has mostly an arrid dry desert climate. Most of the state is wide open desert and there are very few sources of water, with the exception of Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is a large lake that sits on the border of California and Nevada. It is popular for its beaches and mountainous ski resorts.
One of the popular or well-known areas of Nevada is Area 51. It is often depicted in many movies as being a top-secret military base where aliens are held. In reality, while there is an Area 51, it is classified, and so, what happens there is unknown.
Nevada has a long history with crime and the mafia, up until recently, (the 1980’s and 1990’s) many casinos and resorts were run by crime families with ties to the mafia. This was due to the very lenient laws that the state of Nevada has. Now, however, most of the resorts and casinos are owned by reputable companies. If you like gambling, deserts, or skiing, then Nevada is the place for you.
