Week 12 – Postal Differences.

In Japan, there are 3 main postal companies that I can think of.  Japan post, and the other 2 being delivery companies, Yamato and Sagawa.  In the U.S. there are also 3 main ones; USPS (United States Postal Service), UPS and Fedex, which are similar to Yamato and Sagawa.  Japan Post is privatized, while USPS is a government agency. One big difference is convenience.  Both countries have their strengths and weaknesses.  The biggest convenience that I can think of in Japan is the ability to schedule a delivery within a time block, for example, 2 to 4pm etc.  In the U.S. if we are not home they will leave the package in front of the door, and sometimes packages can be stolen.  A strength about the US is that every home and business and apartment has its own mailbox and mail can be picked up and sent from our own mailbox everyday without having to call or schedule a pickup.  We put up a little red flag on the side of the mailbox and that means there is mail waiting to be sent.
