今回はみんな大好きミスタードーナッツのお話です。
日本でもドーナッツといえばミスタードーナッツですね!
元々はアメリカの会社ですが、さらに辿ると、別のドーナッツ屋さんから別れて出来たドーナッツ屋さんだとか。
しかし、今日のアメリカでは「ミスタードーナッツ」というお店は存在しないそうです。
WEEK 8 – The Brothers Donut Empire
Everyone in Japan is familiar with Mister Donuts, but have you heard of an American chain called Dunkin Donuts? Both chains sell delicious donuts and coffee but their origins are closer than you might think. Dunking Donuts is a national chain that was started in 1950 by two brothers and now has over 12,900 locations in 42 countries. Two men, Harry and William who were brothers-in-law, started the company, but in 1955 Harry had a disagreement with William and left the Dunkin Donuts company to start his own company called Mister Donut. They became rivals. Mister Donut expanded very quickly in the U.S. and in 15 years there were 275 locations. Soon they expanded into the international market, opening the first location in Japan in 1971. In the US, in 1989, the ice cream company, Baskin-Robbins or 31 Ice cream bought Dunkin Donuts and Mister Donut and in the US they changed all the Mister Donut shops into Dunkin Donut shops. All of the stores in Japan did not change the name and stuck with Mister Donut since customers were not familiar with Dunkin Donuts. It is interesting because many young Americans have never heard of Mister Donut.
