Legend: THE SCREAM

In the 1970’s there was a famous band called the Ohio Players, they had a few hits, but their most famous hit was Love Rollercoaster. When you listen to this song, near the end during the bridge, if you listen closely you can hear a long, shrill scream from a woman.  Even now, the scream has not been edited out.  Some people doubt whether or not this is true, why don’t you take a listen and judge for yourself.

Story:

Tanya was your average 18 year-old high school senior.  She was popular, had a good family and handsome boyfriend.  She worked part time at the Emerald City Recording studios in Dayton, Ohio.  It was an easy job. She just sat at reception and checked in groups or singers who would rent rooms to record music.  A lot of the time, work was slow, so she would read gossip and teen magazines. Then, on one rainy and dark night, a band came in wanting to book a room.

“Oh my god! You guys are the Ohio Players! I love your music!” she exclaimed, shocked. She quickly went on to set up their sound-proof recording room and process the payment.  They booked the room for four hours; 10 pm to 2 am. She returned to her seat behind the reception desk and continued reading.  Around midnight, the rain was getting heavier, and the thunder, louder. The front door of the recording studio swung open.  A man wearing a trench coat with a large hat covering the top half of his head, slowly walked in, dripping wet.  “I’d like to rent a recording room. It’s just me.” the man said, in a low, scruffy voice. Tanya thought it was strange that a man, all by himself and this late at night would want to rent a room.

Tanya reluctantly showed him to the room.  She tried to make small talk but he just ignored her and wouldn’t respond.  Then it happened. As Tanya bent down to plug in the sound board, the man quickly wrapped an electric guitar cord around her neck, choking her.  She managed to break free and started screaming as loud as she could for help, trying to breathe.  The man then took out a knife and stabbed her 31 times.  He left and locked the recording room door behind him.  2 hours later at 2 am the Ohio Players left their room as they had finished recording their song, Love Rollercoaster.  They looked for Tanya at reception to tell her they were done; since they couldn’t find her they assumed she was in the restroom or on a smoke break.  Having already paid, they left. Tanya’s dead body was discovered the next day by her manager.

If you listen closely to Love Rollercoaster, you can hear Tanya’s chilling scream for help right before being stabbed 31 times to death.
