アメリカでは車と飛行機がメインだそうです。

WEEK 8 – Domestic Travel Via Rail
A majority of domestic travel in Japan is done via rail. This is almost the opposite for the U.S., as most domestic transportation is done by car or plane. There are several reasons for this, size, cost, frequency etc., but today’s topic is rail. Unlike Japan, the U.S. does not have a high-speed bullet train. Although the U.S. does have rail connections and major cities across the country via the national rail company, Amtrak; is it extremely slow and extremely expensive. For comparison, a trip by rail from New York to L.A. would take around 3 to 4 days and would cost $300 just for a seat, a room or bed would cost around $1000. This is much more expensive and time-consuming than the $150 to $200 one way 5 hour flight from New York to L.A. The punctuality, speed and comfort of Japan’s trains are what really make it an excellent choice for domestic travel here in Japan. While trains in the U.S. are clean and comfortable like their Japanese counterparts; the convenience, speed and overall access does not even compare. While trains are best in Japan, If you are in the U.S., I’d recommend flying.
